During Conference, I became a Dementia Friend.

Speakers discussed examples and gave their life experiences in dealing with dementia. The delegation learnt a little bit more about what it's like to live with dementia.  After the 45 minute briefing session, we turned that understanding into action - anyone of any age can be a Dementia Friend.

Alzheimer’s Society
Dementia Friends is about learning more about dementia and the small ways you can help. From telling friends about Dementia Friends to visiting someone you know living with dementia, every action counts.

At party conference, the Alzheimer’s Society stand also gave a first hand experience in dealing with every day tasks.

We also had the opportunity to make any of the series of pledges below:
  • Getting in touch and staying in touch with someone I know living with
  • dementia
  • Volunteering for an organisation that helps people with dementia
  • Campaigning for change, eg by signing up to Alzheimer’s Society’
  • campaigns to improve the  lives of people with dementia
  • Wearing my badge and telling 5 friends about the Dementia Friend
  • Carrying out a personal action eg Be more patient when out in my community
It was very helpful to see so many people support the campaign and promote the work of Alzheimer’s Society.
