Recently, members of the public are joining the awareness campaign in becoming Dementia Friends, and Dementia Champions.

The Alzheimer’s Society initiative aims to increase understanding of, and engagement with those who have, dementia.
As part of Dementia Awareness Week 2016, communities are encouraging social media to promote the campaign.

Although dementia is not a natural part of ageing, and people as young as 30 can develop it, the vast majority of those with dementia are older.

As demographics of the population changes, in an ageing society, statistics reveal people aged 65 and over, may develop dementia, and could suffer from the condition in the future.

By 2021 there will be over a million people living with dementia in the UK as a whole. One in three people over 65 will die with dementia.
