The Davies report is out, I’m relatively pleased with the findings: 25% of FTSE 100 boards are made up of women. Hurray! 

Are we really pushing the boundaries and are many capable women standing up to be accounted for and make others accountable?

The debate on gender equality in the world of work resurfaces, the lack of women intake in public appointments. Many watch the Suffragette latest British historical drama on the female progressive movement for political power and influence, are we still talking about this in 2015?

What can we do to improve the chances for women and young girls? 

Women and young girls have many issues that impact them on: employment, education, entrepreneurship, health and wellbeing, safety and security. We have roles models and many pledge to do more through education, awareness and mentoring, yet we find ourselves in a position debating what more all rounded women can do to assist other women on their journeys.

The media are trying to make some attempts through the BBC100 Women Seasons, Telegraph Women Section whilst avoiding the misogyny and online abuse, are we trying hard enough? I read constantly new campaigners on women issues.

Many Conservative female politicians champion the cause and remind themselves why they entered politics, to make a difference and influence political change for the benefits of Britain and the electorate. Please don’t stop there, reflecting on your roots and struggles, think and act, you are in the position of governing, a third of the Conservative Women sit around the cabinet, selected for the skills, capability and merit.

Change makers, don’t keep dwelling on the past, move forward and coach the aspirational women who want to make the next steps.

Political potential candidates defer from trying due to the financial constraints and physical upheavals, a step in the right direction, the Conservative Party recently introduced a bursary scheme for candidates who want to stand but do not have the resources to do so to campaign. I certainly hope women candidates take the opportunities available to access them in the future.

The crucial statistic that counts: women are 51% of the population,Parliament needs women from all diverse backgrounds and within the structures built in our institutions, elected chambers or through the scrutiny from sitting on the red benches, mark and make a difference where you can.

It seems 2020 is not that far away and the pledge to address gender equality in politics maybe a positive sign for the future way this country is governed and those who have the power to influence it.
