  • Women Driving Political Change

Saturday, 19 March 2011

Friday was a very special occasion, the West Midlands Blue Ladies gathered at their annual AGM. The conference and meeting were both based in Coleshill in the West Midlands region.

Pauline Lucas President of CWO and I
It was a day of celebrations from marking success with International Women Day's activities, the audience also voice their opinions on national policy areas with guest speakers from MP's, MEP's, the National CWO President and retired Vice Chairman.

Pauline Lucas presented views of these women from historical achievements on the creation of CWO with a wealth of experience. MP Margot James delivered her thoughts on current policies, her experiences in Government; health and welfare, immigration, and  specific work on the Violence Against Women Agenda.

Margot James MP and I
I was intrigued to learn about the support of the Anti Trafficking Network Committee, Margot James MP chairs as well as the progress Theresa May; Home Secretary is actively pursuing within the Home Office as Minister for Women & Equalities, the specific drive on the equalities agenda. These specific projects always have my interest.

It's always a pleasure to share a network with differing views, broader thinking and a group of experienced women. There were women from all walks of life in attendance, professional teachers, business women and voluntary workers.

I certainly had a positive time despite pressing work commitments, I managed to have a day to explore scenic Coleshill Manor with my Blue Ladies and have a buffet lunching get together with a purpose to share and reflect. I look forward to the summer CWO West Midlands policy forums which I will report on in the future.
